After meeting a $180,000 matching grant challenge from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the Community Foundation of St. Clair County has awarded the first grants of its newly created Access to Recreation Fund.

The first round of funding will provide grants and business incentives to promote accessibility. Nonprofit grants were awarded to the Blue Water YMCA's Adaptive Aquatics program and the Blue Water Center for Independent Living's Fun for All program. Business incentives were given to Infuz Limited, Architects/Planners and Stevens Pool Ladder, LLC.

The Access to Recreation initiative promotes the use of universal design, which goes beyond the minimum ADA standards. For more information about the initiative and the next scheduled round of grants, call Gigi Mericka at (810) 937-2707.
