Access to Recreation Fund Announces Grant Opportunity

April 27, 2010

Press Release by Lynn Alexander of the St. Clair County Community Foundation

For the past three years, the Access to Recreation initiative has helped transform our community by creating barrier-free, universal access to recreational opportunities across St. Clair County.

Access to Recreation projects include Michigan's first and only universally designed Tree House located at the Pine River Nature Center, an Extreme Pool Makeover in Algonac and accessible canoe and kayak launches at county parks throughout the region.

The Community Foundation is now excited to announce the Access to Recreation Endowment Fund has met a $90,000 Challenge Grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and will begin providing funding to community partners.

The first round of funding will support organizations and businesses with a focus on products or services that promote accessibility. Micro-loans and grants will be available this summer. A brief letter of intent, business plan or program outline is due to the Community Foundation by June 28, 2010.
